This is for a magnificent antique English EPNS (Electro Plated Nickel Silver) tantalus decanter set complete with 7 pieces: the silver-plated tantalus frame, three matching cut crystal decanters with their original fitted stoppers, and three English sterling silver liquor bottle labels.

The elegant tantalus features a hinged carrying handle, Victorian-style feet, decorative cameo panels on the front and back, and three individual compartments designed to securely hold the decanters. The base is stamped EPNS along with the maker's mark of JG over an S within a shield, and a small flower with the number 1. Based on the styling and research, this handsome piece is believed to have been crafted in England during the late 19th century.

The three matching decanters are beautifully hand-crafted from heavy cut crystal with horizontal cuts, chamfered corners, and highly cut ball stoppers. Each stopper is individually fitted to its decanter, as expected with fine hand-cut crystal.

Adding to the rarity of this set are the three matching sterling silver liquor bottle labels, each beautifully cast with a portrait of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, surrounded by grape leaves and grape clusters. The labels are hallmarked Birmingham, 1957, by Turner & Simpson, marked Made in England, and each weighs 17 grams including the chain.

The labels included are - Whiskey - Scotch - Gin

Measurements: EPNS Tantalus Frame - 14 inches tall x 14 inches wide x 5 inches deep

Crystal Decanters (each) - 9 inches tall x 3 1/2 inches wide x 3 1/2 inches deep

Sterling Silver Bottle Labels - 2 inches tall x 2 1/4 inches wide x 1/4 inch deep (without chain)

Weight (each bottle label) - 17 grams

The silver-plated tantalus is in wonderful antique condition with no missing silver plate or areas where the base metal is showing. There is one missing nut on the underside, but no other significant issues were noted.

The crystal decanters are bright and beautifully reflective. As expected with antique crystal, there are a few condition notes: small nicks and one chip on the bases of two decanters, one stopper has a chip, another has a small flea bite, and there are light water etch marks visible upon close inspection. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are part of the description and accurately represent the condition of this exceptional antique set.

This elegant English tantalus set is a wonderful addition to any fine bar, library, study, or antique collection and is sure to become a treasured conversation piece for years to come.
