Antique Portuguese .833 Silver Holy Ghost Espirito Santo Crown

This is for an exceptional Antique Portuguese Silver Holy Ghost (Espírito Santo) Crown with Matching Stand, a rare ceremonial example rather than the more commonly found decorative reproductions. This impressive full-size crown was made for actual use during Portuguese Holy Ghost (Festas do Espírito Santo) celebrations and is an outstanding piece of Portuguese religious history.

Crafted from Portuguese .833 silver, the crown is marked in two locations. One mark is the Portuguese Boar (Javali) hallmark, indicating .833 silver and dating the piece between 1887 and 1937. Based on the style and construction, this example appears to date from the late 19th century. The second mark is a Portuguese rosette silversmith/workshop mark.

The crown and stand are richly decorated with deep repoussé floral designs throughout and feature numerous original period bolts, four colored cabochon stones, and a beautifully detailed Holy Spirit dove finial. The stand is constructed in two pieces that screw together, while the crown itself is assembled from multiple hand-crafted components, illustrating the traditional methods used by Portuguese silversmiths of the period.

**Condition: This antique set is in wonderful vintage condition overall. There is one professionally repaired attachment point where an original bolt was replaced, and the screw head is visible from the exterior, as shown in the photographs. This minor repair does not detract from the rarity, beauty, or historical significance of the piece.
