Antique French Bronze Double Inkwell Encrier Louis XV Desk Set c1890

This is for an absolutely stunning antique French bronze double inkwell (encrier), dating to approximately the 1890s. Richly cast in the elegant Louis XV style, this impressive writing station features exceptional ornamental detail, including lion paw feet, decorative hinged inkwell lids, and a beautifully sculpted figural face that serves as the centerpiece of the design.

The encrier retains its two original cut crystal inkwells with hinged bronze lids, creating a striking and functional desk accessory that reflects the artistry and craftsmanship of late 19th-century French decorative arts. The substantial size and intricate casting make this an outstanding statement piece for a desk, library, office, or collector's display.

While originally designed as a writing station, the crystal inkwells also lend themselves to creative decorative uses. The bronze is in wonderful antique condition with a beautiful aged patina consistent with its age. The piece sits slightly uneven due to a difference in the height of one foot; a clear rubber support has been added beneath the back foot to prevent rocking when touched. The original green marble (stone) center insert has a crack, but it is supported by the underlying brass frame, helping to stabilize it and prevent further movement with normal care. These age-related characteristics do not detract from the exceptional beauty, rarity, or display presence of this remarkable antique.
