Antique Crystal Decanter Tantalus Set, EPNS Liquor Caddy, Sterling Silver Tags

This is for a wonderful Antique bar set. This is for a Silver plated (EPNS) tantalus* decanter set. The handle is hinged and has cameo styled pieces on the front and back with Victorian styled feet and 3 separated spots for the decanters. This is sold as a set and includes the 7 items shown.

The holder is stamped with EPNS and the makers Initials of JG over an S in a shield on the base. There is also a small flower with the number 1 at the other end of the base. I believe it to be from England and the late 19th century per research and styling.

This is in very nice condition esp due to age. There is no missing silver plate or noted areas with the under metal showing. One nut missing on the underside, with no other noted issues.


The 3 decanters are matching cut crystal. Each has its own stopper. They are fitted to each bottle as hand crafted.

The decanters have horizontal cuts with angled corners and a highly cut ball stoppers.

*There are small nicks , and one chip on the bases of 2 bottles as noted in pictures. The decanters are very light reflective and thick glass. The stoppers also have thick glass that leads from the ball into the bottle. One stopper has a chip and one a flee bite and noted light water etch marks when looking closely.


The Beautiful antique caddy measures: 14 inches tall x 14 inches wide x 5 inches deep.
The 3 antique cut crystal decanters measure: 9 inches tall x 3.5 inches wide x 3.5 inches deep.
The STERLING bottle tags measure: 2 inches tall x 2.25 inches wide x .25 inches deep without the chain.

These 3 English STERLING Silver liquor bottle tags / Carafe Labels are decorated (with Dionysus**) These are marked Made in England with makers marks. These are beautifully cast with a Baroque styling and hallmarked Birmingham 1957 by Turner and Simpson and weigh 17 grams each with the chain.

*A tantalus is a container for holding two or three glass or crystal bottles of alchoholic drinks. A tantalus may take various forms, the most common being made from silver, silver plate or wood with the three bottles in a circle or two bottles in line with a central handle. A larger version has three bottles in a line with two end supports and a horizontal top and handle.

**Dionysus, the ancient Greek god of the grape harvest, wine making and wine is surrounded by grape leaves and clusters of grapes.
