Antique Meriden Britannia Silverplate Tea Set, Victorian Monogrammed (5 Piece)

This is for a remarkable antique Meriden Britannia Company silverplate tea service in the highly collectible Pattern #1878. Dating to the late Victorian Aesthetic Movement period, this extraordinary set showcases the artistic creativity and elaborate craftsmanship that made Meriden Britannia one of America's most respected silver manufacturers.

Founded in 1852 in Meriden, Connecticut, the Meriden Britannia Company became one of the premier producers of silverplate hollowware and flatware before becoming part of the International Silver Company in 1898. Today, Meriden Britannia pieces are represented in museum collections and remain highly sought after by collectors of fine American silverplate.

This impressive tea service is richly decorated with an abundance of sculptural details. Male faces with flowing beards and distinctive hats appear throughout the set, adorning spouts, handles, finials, and raised decorative panels. The lids are crowned with charming young boy finials, creating a whimsical and highly artistic design representative of the Aesthetic Movement's emphasis on beauty and craftsmanship.
Each piece bears the maker's mark and pattern number on the underside and features an AFM monogram on one side.

Tea Pot: 13" long x 9" tall x 5.5" deep
(Please note the young boy finial is missing the instrument originally held in his hand.)
Sugar Bowl: 6" tall x 6.5" wide x 4" deep
Covered Pot: 10" tall x 8" wide x 5" deep
Creamer: 6" tall x 6" wide x 4" deep
Silverplate Tray (Ascot Pattern): 24.5" wide x 14" deep x 1.5" tall

The tray was paired with the tea service because its color and styling complement the set beautifully, creating an impressive display ensemble.

Considering the age of these pieces, their condition is exceptional. There are no significant areas of silverplate loss noted. There is a small area of wear on one lid and the tea pot finial is missing the small instrument held by the boy figure. Otherwise, the set presents beautifully with remarkable preservation for pieces that are well over a century old.

This is in wonderful antique condition and makes an outstanding addition to any collection of Victorian silverplate, Aesthetic Movement décor, Meriden Britannia hollowware, or antique tea services.
