Antique St Louis Silver Co Stein Quadruple Plate Dragon Handle Tankard

This is for a magnificent antique wood and quadruple plate stein produced by the St. Louis Silver Company in the early 1900s. Exceptionally large and substantial, this impressive stein combines ornate silver-plated decoration with a richly aged appearance that reflects more than a century of history.

The interior is marked with the patent date Aug. 1, 1905 along with the maker's name St. Louis Silver Co., helping to date the piece to the early 20th century. Measuring approximately 15 inches tall, 7 inches wide including the handle, and 5 inches in diameter at the base, this is a remarkably large and heavy example that commands attention wherever displayed.

The body is decorated with elaborate high-relief silver-plated motifs featuring Oriental-inspired imagery including koi fish, dragons, gargoyles, and other fantastical creatures that wrap around the entire stein. The dramatic dragon-form handle serves as a striking focal point and showcases the detailed artistry that went into the creation of this piece.

The stein retains its original antique patina and character. It has only been lightly cleaned to highlight the dimensional details of the relief decoration while preserving its aged appearance. Given its age and the decision to retain much of the original patina, there may be wear to the silver plating that has not been aggressively polished or restored. Many collectors prefer this authentic antique presentation rather than a highly polished finish.

This impressive stein makes a wonderful display piece for collectors of antique barware, breweriana, dragon décor, Victorian silverplate, Oriental-inspired decorative arts, or unusual antique metalwork.
