This is for an absolutely stunning rare Very Large Tea Set. The set is marked with the makers initials.
The Tray is Martin Hall and (Germany) and the Tea set is WEP . (Sheffield, England) These were purchased together and most likely used together through the years as close in date of production.
The tray is marked and from Martin Hall and . from Sheffield England, dated 1854-1863 per the markings and how the company initials are stamped.
This tea set was crafted by WMF WEP ...., of Germay. WEP Co stands for Wurttemberg Electroplate Company and was the trade name used by WMF in the early 20th century for their exports to English speaking countries, Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) being considered a bit too German for international sales, thus the name change.
This company was founded in the 1853 as a partnership between Daniel Straub and Josef and Friedrich Schweizer. In 1892 the men developed a special technique for silver plating in which the silver coating is double thick in areas that are exposed to greater wear. Their patented process is called "Perfect Hard Silver Plating".
The pieces are in very nice condition and this set will make for a lovely collector set to also use for many more years to come. This set is so impressive and the pictures don't do it justice!
*** There are two spots with missing silver plate on bottom of different pots - note pics to see one. Then there is one of the pins missing on the stand, but tilting still works as one is on the chain. The handle on one is loose where the bone spacers are, could easily be glued without an issue.
***I will send this fully insured and will require a signature upon delivery so it arrives safely.
