This is for an extraordinary pair of antique Federal-style silver-plated candelabras dating to the late 19th century. These rare and impressive statement pieces feature exceptional scale, remarkable craftsmanship, and stunning hand-etched hurricane shades that make them unlike most examples found today.
Each candelabra measures approximately 16.5 inches tall, 19 inches wide, and 5.5 inches deep without the hurricane shades. They are exceptionally heavy, weighing approximately 10 pounds each, and have a commanding presence that immediately draws attention.
When fitted with their original etched glass hurricane shades, the candelabras stand an impressive 26.5 inches tall, 22 inches wide, and 6 inches deep. The oversized hand-etched shades are truly remarkable and feature majestic American Eagles with wings fully spread, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original thirteen colonies. The detailed etching creates beautiful reflections when illuminated, casting decorative star patterns onto surrounding walls and surfaces.
The design of the candelabra bases closely resembles high-quality Sheffield silverplate examples from England, both in form and craftsmanship. The original maker's markings were likely located on the underside, though the original metal base liners are no longer present and have been replaced with felt coverings that provide a finished appearance.
These candelabras retain their silver-plated hurricane collars that fit inside the candle cups. One of these collars appears to have been replaced at some point in the past.
**Condition notes:
One hurricane shade has a very small chip along the top rim that appears to have been professionally smoothed.
One candelabra appears structurally sound with no noted issues.
The second candelabra appears to have an old repair or added silver reinforcement where the arms connect to the body.
**One candelabra shows two areas of silverplate wear where the underlying copper is visible.
Please review all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description.
Despite these age-related condition notes, this pair remains exceptionally decorative, rare, and visually impressive. Their size, weight, historical styling, and patriotic eagle-etched hurricane shades make them outstanding display pieces for formal dining rooms, historic homes, libraries, entryways, holiday decorating, or collections of antique silver and lighting accessories.
These are in wonderful antique condition for their age with the condition issues noted above and make a truly remarkable addition to any collection.
